Headline's main role is to attract the audience. This attraction will then eventually push the readers to read more about the headline. A good headline shall leave its audience with intrigue, that will then compel them to get the whole article, newsletter or ad. Here are some tips to help you write an interesting headline.

Your headline should sound appetizing. It should be something that would tickle the curiosity of your readers, and push them into reading more of your work. To do this, post a provocative statement or ask an outrageous question. Feel free to play with the words, and take advantage of the gifts of alliteration. Amusing headlines are also a favorite. One thing that you should avoid is to give an ambiguous headline. If people can not understand what you are saying, they are most likely to ignore it.

You may also opt to coin your headline in a manner that it gives the readers an answer to their question. Directly state the benefit that they will enjoy when they read your work. Think of a question that is in line with the current trend in the economy or pop culture. Then, your article shall offer a solution to suffice. A short and sweet headline always does the trick. The best length to stick with is seven words or less. This is effective because a shorter headline is easier to read.

Don't give your readers a false promise. You should avoid giving a teaser and your article would not be able to deliver the goods. So, whatever you claim on your headline, you should give it to your readers. You do not want your readers to feel disappointed. They would most likely avoid your work again since they had a bad experience with your articles. Be wary with your headline's format too. Make sure that the first word of your headline is capitalized. Then, do not capitalize anything else. Uniformity is a valuable factor in a headline.

The best headlines are the ones made of logical sentence structures, active voice, and strong present tense verb. If you were able to pick good verbs, it would be easier for you to make an attractive headline. It is best to put the headline at the left side of the page. Be careful with the tenses of your verbs. Only use present tense for present events, past tense for past perfect, and future tense for upcoming events. Be wary of the punctuation marks too, as your headline would be your reader's first impression on the totality of your article or newsletter. Most common error is forgetting to put a period on abbreviations. Also, single quotes should be used while double ones are applied on copy. Lastly, be careful on breaking your headlines. Do not split verbs in between lines of the headlines, or ending the line with prepositions. Take note of these rules in mind while you are yielding headlines for your articles.

You must have noticed that several web pages that there are clickable blue words that will take you to another page These are referred to as anchor texts and they can help increase your websites popularity and page rank (PR)

Some use the words click here as the text readers will click but that would only tell the search engines that the page is about click here. It is best to use descriptive anchor text to allow the search engines to realize what your website is about and they can index it in the right way for searching. Anchor text can zoom a page into the top ten searches in Google just using a phrase that is not shown anywhere on the webpage.

Google Bombing had became a popular prank for bloggers. They would use humorous or just random phrases that will get them noticed.
